I just moved into a new apartment and I want to set it up nicely for when I'm chillin listening to music. I know a lot about video and sound and how to output, but I've never experimented with lights so I'm not sure where to start with this.
What I want is to line the the perimeter my walls, either the floor or the ceiling (or both!) with LED lights (or similar lighting experience). I'd like the lights to react to my music - ideally they would pulsate and change color. I would love to be able to control the lights with vdmx - I'd use soundflower to pass the sound channel to VDMX, and then vdmx would be connected to the lights. I'd use vdmx to run the light show.
So, is anyone here able to lead me in the right direction? The key to this set up is going to be connecting the light to vdmx so I can set up some controls, is this possible?
I am willing to spend up to $500 on equipment. I already have a laptop and vdmx. I just need to invest in lighting and any other hardware that would be needed to hook the lights into the computer.
Thanks!! |

Note that the Synthe-fx plugin will only allow you to *receive* dmx data. So if you want to control things from VDMX you'll need to send dmx data as well.
For controlling things from VDMX I've found the Kineme Art-Net tools (http://kineme.net/product/ArtNetTools) and a Enttec Art-Net DMX box (http://www.enttec.com/index.php?main_menu=Products&prod=70305&show=description&name=ode) to be the most reliable and versatile combo. |
